Railroad Ballast is a larger cut rock, like a gravel type rock though much larger in size. The Railroad ballast is about the size of a tennis ball. It comes in both the gray or darker bluish-gray color.
$42/ cubic yard $30/ half cubic yard
Coverage: All of our loader buckets are calibrated to be 1, 2 or 3 cubic yards, depending on the size of the loader. However, due to the variation in size of Railroad Ballast, it is difficult to estimate how much area the “bucket” will cover. For a rough estimate, use the materials calculator on every page. Enter your length, width and at least 5 inches for depth (due to the size of each rock which ranges from 3-5 inches). Again, this is a rough estimate and will depend a lot on how you place the rocks.
Weight: 1 cubic yard of Railroad Ballast weighs approximately 2,500 pounds.
Most standard pick-up trucks (ex. F150) or single axle 5x8 trailer can hold 1 yard because of the weight.
