William Roscoe Biggs, 88, of Durham, went to be with his Lord & Savior, Sunday, April 30, 2023, at his home.
William was a loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Marth Carlton Biggs; parents, John and Corinne Biggs; brother, John Biggs Jr.; and sister, Margaret Biggs Watson. He leaves behind his sons, Stephen Biggs (Susan) and Michael Biggs (Bonnie); his daughter, Pamela Biggs (Ryen Ford); his grandchildren, Christie Ilharramendy (Justin), Daniel Biggs, Andrew Biggs (Sarah), Julianne Biggs, Victoria Biggs, Gabe Greer (Cassie), Josh Greer (Erin), Kylah Clayton (Brent); his great grandchildren, Cruz Ilharramendy, Mia Ilharramendy, Harker Biggs, Olivia Biggs, Caige Clayton, Cross Clayton, Ashton Greer, Easton Greer, MacKenzie Greer, and Kaitlyn Greer.
William worked at Benson Aircraft, Hutchins Auto Supply, Pifer Industries, and Owens Illinois before starting his own business with his wife, Martha Biggs, Biggs & Smith Inc. DBA Sands & Soils, a family-owned business that has served Durham and the surrounding communities for 47 years. He also owned Downeast Marine for 25 years before selling it in 2020. He and Martha also formed Biggs Family Partnership.
William’s faith in Jesus Christ came first in his life; he served as a Sunday school teacher for 20 years in the Genesis class at Fletcher's Chapel. Second was his love for his family. Nothing brought him more joy than to have 4 generations in the office or his home on any given day. His work ethic and thought process was unmatched.
As his final days on earth approached his prayers were giving God praise and glory for all his blessings, his family, his extended family, devoted friends, caregivers (Beverly and Joy), his church, and prayers for those who didn’t know the lord as savior to find salvation.
The family would like to thank all the friends, fellow church members, and the families that visited him and offered up prayers for him.
