Rip Rap is a larger cut rock, like a gravel type rock though much larger in size. The Rip Rap comes in two sizes.
Class A ranges in size from roughly the size of a softball to a football.
Class B ranges in size from a football to a basketball.
Rip Rap stays in place well with high water and is often seen on embankments by roads and in ditches. The Rip Rap comes in the lighter and darker blue colors.
How much is one cubic yard?
Coverage: All of our loader buckets are calibrated to be 1, 2 or 3 cubic yards, depending on the size of the loader. However, due to the variation in size of Rip Rap, it is difficult to estimate how much area the “bucket” will cover. For a rough estimate, use the materials calculator on every page. Enter your length, width and at least 6 inches for depth (due to the size of each rock). Again, this is a rough estimate and will depend a lot on how you place the rocks.
Weight: 1 cubic yard of Rip Rap weighs approximately 2,500-2,600 pounds. Most standard pick-up trucks (ex. F150) or single axle 5x8 trailer can hold 1 yard because of the weight.
*Please note that Rip Rap can cause damage (i.e dents, scratches, broken windows) to the pick-up truck when dumped. We typically suggest hand loading this material into the truck bed or at the very least placing plywood down first.
Common Uses:
