The rock screenings is the rock dust left over after cut gravel is washed. Because the screenings are a rock product, it tends to be more coarse than sand. Screenings pack well and form a base either over time or by tamping it down.
Screenings, often referred to as rock dust, can be used in between fieldstone in patios or as the base for pavers or fieldstone.
How much is one cubic yard?
Coverage: One cubic yard of screenings covers an area 9 x 12 three inches deep.
Weight: 1 cubic yard of screenings weighs approximately 2,500 pounds. Most standard pick-up trucks (ex. F150) or single axle 5x8 trailer can hold 1 yard because of the weight.
Common Uses:
-Base for pavers or fieldstone
-Dog kennels
Recommendations:
The Screening should not be used as a base for above ground pools because the product may have sharp edges and puncture the liner.
When using as a leveling agent for things like pavers, you should not use more than one inch. Using more than one inch could cause the pavers to shift when pressure is applied.
